However, technical and biological confounders lead to difficulties in establishing universal cutoff values for diagnosis. Hepatoscope\u00ae remedies this issue as it integrates a unique QUS measurement technique enabling the simultaneous measurements of the\u00a0<a class=\"topic-link\" title=\"Learn more about backscattering coefficient from ScienceDirect's AI-generated Topic Pages\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/engineering\/backscattering-coefficient\">backscattering coefficient<\/a>, the\u00a0<a class=\"topic-link\" title=\"Learn more about attenuation coefficient from ScienceDirect's AI-generated Topic Pages\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/physics-and-astronomy\/attenuation-coefficient\">attenuation coefficient<\/a>\u00a0and the speed of sound. Such measurements are performed in a large two-dimensional region of interest (ROI) and in a free breathing regime such that a relatively large portion of the liver is sampled. We studied the influence of the size of the ROI, its depth and the number of measurements on the QUS parameters with Hepatoscope\u00ae both in vitro on four calibrated phantoms and clinically on 60 participants referred to a\u00a0<a class=\"topic-link\" title=\"Learn more about hepatology from ScienceDirect's AI-generated Topic Pages\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/medicine-and-dentistry\/hepatology\">hepatology<\/a>\u00a0consultation for\u00a0<a class=\"topic-link\" title=\"Learn more about chronic liver disease from ScienceDirect's AI-generated Topic Pages\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/pharmacology-toxicology-and-pharmaceutical-science\/chronic-liver-disease\">chronic liver disease<\/a>. We demonstrated that using large ROIs consistently improves the system reliability and the clinical applicability. We did not observe any\u00a0<a class=\"topic-link\" title=\"Learn more about systematic effect from ScienceDirect's AI-generated Topic Pages\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/engineering\/systematic-effect\">systematic effect<\/a>\u00a0related to the depth of the ROI.
